# Peptide

A word about what something is made of.

A peptide is a short strand made from the same building blocks as proteins.

Insulin is one such peptide.

Selank’s strand contains seven building blocks.

## What the word leaves out

The name “peptide” describes a substance’s building blocks. That name alone cannot establish whether U.S. rules allow a product to be supplied.

A peptide name also does not tell you whether harm has been well studied.

Ask which product is being offered. What studies tested it in people? Has FDA approved that product for the proposed use?

### Put the term to work

What is the exact substance being discussed? Is the claim about this substance, or about peptides as a whole?

A clear answer names the substance. It does not ask you to accept a broad claim because the word sounds technical.
